I know in my heart that if I ever get to the End of the Road, some kind soul will have left the light on for me.

As enjoyable reading as hearing.

The Big Garage on Clear Shot may just prove once and for all that the
most interesting lives are being lived by ordinary people, just like you and me. It definitely proves that Tom Bodett is Alaska's favorite son, and America's most distinctive storytelling voice. In this wonderful gem of a book, you can go back one more time to catch up on some fresh stories just like those heard around the coffee pot at the Big Garage on Clear Shot. ("Young love may well be the most overrated phenomenon since the disposable diaper. No matter how nice it seems looking back on it all, it was still an ugly business." - from Ruby and Argus)

Excerpt from Norman’s Date (page 91)

…Norman and Laura had enjoyed a long and bashful courtship, made up mostly of fleeting glances and playful snowballs. Norman wasn’t usually one to drag his feet, but in matters of the heart he proceeded cautiously. Cautiously enough that it took him five months to ask her out from the time he decided it would be a pretty good idea.

When he finally did ask her, he used the traditional manner. He’d written a note and given it to his best friend, Stanley, to give to Laura’s best friend, Molly, who gave it to Laura, who circled the predescribed "yes" or "no" in the affirmative and passed it back to Norman through the same proper channels. They’d had no other communication over the past three weeks except when Molly rushed up to Norman in the hallway one day and gushed, "Laura’s wearing fuchsia to the dance if you’re going to buy a corsage."….

For years my young character
Norman Tuttle has been
burning a hole in my literary
pocket. For those of you
who knew Norman when,
you've never seen him like
this. And for those of you who
have never met him, I think
he'll remind you of someone
you know. Maybe someone
you know very well.
